The Intrinsic Night Owl
The intrinsic night owl is one who can genuinely remain alert and awake at night with or without caffeine-aid. This individual thrives in the silent embrace of stars and darkness, finding solace and inspiration when the world dreams. This person can indulge in deep work, completely losing track of time till the sun rays entwine with the light from the night lamp. And shockingly for others, that’s when they feel an overwhelming slumber and fall into a deep sleep, happy with the work accomplished in the quiet darkness of the night.
If this is you, the following prompts are for you to find calm amidst the chaos in your evening routine:
- Mindfulness: Being an intrinsic night owl in a world that applauds morning persons is difficult enough. Transitioning into work at the end of the day is no easy task either. You might want that cup of coffee only for comfort, if not to stay awake! I get it. Take a few minutes for yourself to get into your element. Review your life goals and fundamental values of work and success. In the midst of our busy lives, it’s essential to carve out moments of stillness and reflection to connect with ourselves on a deeper level. Take note of what brings you joy and fulfillment at work. This can put you in the right mindspace to get into work-mode.

Take no more than 10 minutes each day to prioritize your task list and reminder list, ensuring that you stay focused on what truly matters. Start by identifying the most important tasks that align with your life story, breaking them down into smaller, actionable steps. Remember, it’s not about doing more; it’s about doing the most you can at the given time and circumstances with all available resources.
- Upskilling: Continuous learning and growth are essential for staying relevant and competent in this ever-evolving world. Dedicate at least 45 – 90 minutes of your work-mode each day to immerse yourself in deep work, focusing on activities that move the needle forward towards achieving your life’s purpose. Whether it’s acquiring new skills, pursuing further education, or honing existing talents, investing in your personal and professional development is key to showing up as your highest self at work and life. Work on the life-projects today that your future self will thank you for!
The Circumstantial Night Owl
The circumstantial night owl is someone who gets by the night alright, but does not remain alert enough to engage their brains to their fullest potential, i.e. can only complete general admin and planning tasks throughout the night if need be. A good number of such people would also prefer the stillness of the night because that is the only time of the day they have to themselves truly. For them, the stillness of the night offers a precious reprieve from the demands of the day, albeit with a sense of resignation to their nocturnal fate. But, in all earnestness, they function at their innovative best in the bright morning hours only when they have had a good night’s sleep.
If this is you, the following prompts are for you to find calm amidst the chaos in your evening routine:
- Silence: It takes conscious mindfulness to find peace in your usual daily chores at the end of the day. Create a calming environment free from distractions. Dedicate few minutes each evening to embrace the peace and quiet of your solitude. Allow yourself to be content with what you have done in a day’s time, and get a good 6 – 7 hours of sleep to replenish your mind and body to its healthy-happy bestest capabilities.
- Gratitude: Choose happiness for at least one blessed moment of the day, every single night. This will eventually attune your mind to seek out the best in people and the world. Whether it’s a simple pleasure or a profound realization, consciously choosing gratitude can become a refuge of peace and joy. This simple mindset shift can instantly calm your mind and let you slip into a deep restful sleep faster than you can imagine.
